Social Enterprise You Can Cook working in partnership with (CYANS)NHS to help shape the future of allergy care in Scotland

You Can Cook is working in partnership with NHS Lothian in providing Cookery Demonstration to tackle allergy sufferers.

Children and young people with allergies and their parents/carers are being invited to help shape the future of allergy services in Scotland.
The Children’s and Young People’s Network Scotland (CYANS), a new National Managed Clinical Network, has been set up recently to look into current allergy service provision and make recommendations to the Scottish Government for improvement to enable NHS Scotland to respond effectively to the ongoing allergy epidemic.

The pilot will take place in 3 different locations in Scotland.

The first session is taking place at The Melting Pot this Saturday 24th in Edinburgh, followed by Glasgow and Aberdeen.

You Can Cook shortlisted for ‘Green Business of the Year Award 2012′

Scottish Borders Council (SBC) has announced eight categories for the 2012 Business Excellence Awards. Reflecting the diversity of local businesses, this year’s categories are intended to acknowledge and showcase business success and entrepreneurial activity across the region.
Open to businesses based in the Scottish Borders, entry to the awards is completely free and the closing date for entries is 10 February 2012.
As well as receiving valuable media exposure during the competition period, each of the shortlisted companies will have the opportunity to showcase their company and achievements at the annual award ceremony, which will be held on 23rd March at Scottish Borders Campus in Galashiels, where the winners will be announced.

Healthy Young Cooks

You Can Cook have been successful in receiving funding to run cookery classes for young people in the Peebles and Innerliethen area for 2012. Funding is for organising 4 programmes on healthy cooking and are addressed to young people between 12-18 years old. Each programme will consist of 5 workshops and some of the topics covered are; light snacks, planning, budgeting skills, store cupboard, cooking with leftovers, cakes and bread.

These workshops are designed to be fun and interactive and will be held during the year in venues across Peebles and Innerleithen.

What is Social Enterprise?

Bosco gave a talk at Borders College on the 24th October 2011. The topic was, What is Social Enterprise?.

It was the first event organised by the college and was aimed at about 75 students from the business studies department.

The annual ‘Celebrating Social Enterprise’ Parliamentary Reception, to be held on Tuesday 15th November from 6-8pm at the Scottish Parliament. This event is kindly sponsored by The Wise Group, Social Enterprise Academy and Link Group.
You Can Cook was one of the exhibitors at the event and it was attended by over 250 people from all sectors of the economy.

YOU CAN COOK Executive Director Bosco Santimano will be attending the Nourish Scotland annual conference in Glasgow on the 1st October 2011. The event is a 2 day conference and has attracted a host of Speakers, organisations and individuals from the food and health sector.
Bosco will be speaking at 2 workshops on the 1st October 2011. Please see details below.

11.30am – Low Income Communities – Increasing Uptake of Local Food

Bosco will run this workshop with Ann Gibson from Community Food and Health. Bosco will be sharing his experience with participants on YOU CAN COOK’s successful engagement with low income communities and how YOU CAN COOK as an organisation inspires, promotes and creates awareness of local food among low income communities in Scotland.

3.15pm – Social Enterprise

Bosco will share his vision for the future of Scotland on being self reliant, sustainable and a fair and just society through running a Social Enterprise!

Cookery & Baking Workshops

You Can Cook are organising a cookery and baking class in Peebles. These sessions are provided free to the community as part of our ethos being a social enterprise. All the sessions will take place at the Peebles community centre (Drill Hall) on a Wednesday from 7pm – 8.30pm.

Please note that you have to book and confirm a place as its on a first come first served basis.
